Wayzata student receives $5000 surprise When Wayzata High School senior Ejeb Dema was pulled out of class Wednesday morning, she worried if there was something she needed to apologize for. Instead, she found a crowd of people waiting to make her $5000 richer. "In some ways it's like our version of Publisher's Clearing House," explained Bruce Nustad, president of the TwinWest Chamber of Commerce. TwinWest ambushed Dema on Wednesday to announce that she beat out more than 200 applicants to earn the Legacy Scholarship, the chamber's largest award. . Each year TwinWest doles out thousands of dollars in scholarships with money donated by local businesses. It reserves the biggest prize for one student who stands apart from the rest. "When you talk to Ejeb, if you spent a few moments with her, you'd realize from the start just an amazing personality," said Nustad. "You couple that with fine academics, great volunteerism in the community, a strong participation at school and some work experience, and it makes her a nice natural choice for the Legacy Award Scholarship." It's a much deserved award for the high school senior. While Dema's high school career has been very successful -- it has not been easy.
